As we settle into 2010 and a new decade, it is a great time to take on the role of President of Network Mayo.
I have chosen ‘Resilience in Challenging Times’ as my theme for 2010.
We are living in challenging times and through networking we meet new people. The way we think determines the way we feel, and this is why we’ve got to get our thinking right.
It is important in these uncertain times that businesses work with and support each other. Network Mayo is a forum for putting people in touch with each other. It creates an opportunity to communicate directly with others.
Network Mayo is built on people believing in each other. Our members are from many different disciplines and are happy to chat, offer advice and share their experiences. I understand there is no easy way, and that we are living in disheartening times, therefore we must never lose hope.
Network Mayo provides the opportunity to meet with people from many different professions. Networking is crucial in these times. Networking should be fun. It is an opportunity to meet new people. It is a time to be proactive and involved. Networking is about word of mouth marketing and this may involve moving out of your comfort zone. Network Mayo is the ideal organisation to assist you in taking these steps.
Network Mayo have a very exciting year ahead. We launched our 2010 Programme with Speakers Liz Waters RSVP Network Ireland Business Woman of the Year 2009 ( Self Employed Category) Una Murphy Ex Officio President Network Ireland. Coming up we have a Social Networking Evening, March 24th our Fund Raising Fashion Show. This year we have chosen the Down Syndrome Society Mayo Region as our charity, that will be followed by our Business Awards.
We have many events open to men and women throughout the year. Please do feel free to come along as a guest.
My committee and I together with our members will be delighted to welcome you.

Successful people and great leaders do one thing differently than most people during times of challenge. They think for themselves instead of sinking into the prevailing negative state of their circumstances and the people around them.
Coming up next month we have our social networking evening--members only. Speakers on the night include Frank Fullard and Fiona Keane of mendr.net. Fiona is a Network Mayo member.
March is our fundraising event. The charity I have chosen is Down Syndrome Society Mayo Region. I have worked with down syndrome many times, some of the parents are here this evening, and you know for me these young men and women are a true example of inspiration. It never ceases to amaze me the joy and fun these people bring to each other, their determination and belief in themselves and others. We speak about resilience in challenging times, but in this amazing organisation I have experienced resilience of these wonderful parents. So our fundraiser will be a fashion show which will be held in the Welcome Inn Hotel on Wednesday, 24th March.
Network mayo Business Awards selection will take place in April this year following the precedent set by Sinead Holmes last year. We have 3 categories.
-- Business woman of the year self employed
-- Business woman of the year new business
-- Business woman of the year employee category and in may the winners will be announced at a dinner party.
